2026: Join us to play!

A session is about getting together to share tunes for the joy of it! You learn some tunes in advance, play along on those, and get some inspiration by listening to the ones you haven't learned yet.

Reconvene Session + Snackfest: Feb 8, 12:45-3:45

Upcoming klezmer sessions & Teen session: TBD

Pre-registration is required so that you can receive materials. See below to sign up!

Dates

  • Feb 8: Let's get the band back together!
    • It's a reunion for returning students and a welcome for newcomers. We'll have some time to just hang out together, so bring a snack for yourself OR to share with the group.
    • Usually we focus on one style, but as we reconvene for the first time since summer Fiddle Camp, this date is all-styles — plus a chance to learn a klezmer tune from returning special guest Mae Kessler or lead teacher Shula Kleinerman. Request any of your favorites, offer to teach a tune you love, or learn anything our backlog of group tunes with the resources you receive when you sign up.
  • Watch this space for next winter-spring sessions
    • And we'll be preparing for our May 17 klezmer gig too!

Location: Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, 10005 32nd Ave NE, Seattle 98125

Come to the downstairs garden entrance on 100th, near the big rock

About these sessions

How do we learn the tunes in advance? Sign up and you''ll receive some sheet music, recordings, and sometimes even instructional videos. Please arrive already able to play at least one of the listed tunes.

Who can participate? Student musicians in elementary through high school grades are welcome, from near-beginner to advanced. Near-beginner means you play a few tunes somewhat slowly. Experienced players play more and faster and more independently, and will have a separate tune-learning session. Parents are welcome to hang out and listen to the music, but the playing circle at all Fiddlesticks events is students and Fiddlesticks teachers/accompanists only.

  • What instrument? Most returning participants play violin, and Fiddlesticks director Shula Kleinerman will be hosting the session and leading the tunes on violin. Other instruments are welcome — plucked strings, lower bowed strings, wind instruments — as long as you feel comfortable without a teacher modeling on the same instrument as you.
  • What tunes? When you register, you'll gain access to our tune list, where you can request tunes you know and find out which tunes you might want to learn or dust off to play with the group.

Registration? Fees? Sign up as soon as possible, below, to see the tune list and receive learning materials. We recommend an as-able sliding-fee tuition payment of $15-$75 for this afternoon gathering. If this fee is a barrier, please just sign up and let us know you need a full scholarship.
